Rail Recovery

This week has seen a lot of rail moved, we’ve certainly topped the half way mark now.

Given we’ve managed to do an enormous amount of towing, we mixed things up a bit with some sledding, making for even more towing, but that’s how it goes.

We managed to sled from Donkey Gully Rd towards Castlemaine about 600m before the rain set in this after noon.

Next week will be a little different, as we’ll be splitting our time between this job and lineside grass cutting. Monday will be a mowing day, with Tuesday hopefully a jewellery collection day.

Rail Recovery

Jumping Stephen Street in Campbell’s Creek was today’s task.

Approximately 40 rails were dragged over ski jump mark 3 (not as good as mark 2 but still alright) and down to Moscript Street.

The gang also worked once again to remove more anchors, achieving an incredible effort with almost all anchors now removed south of Stephen St.

Moscript Street, which is just around the corner in the above pic, is the final crossing before we the junction, so we’re really getting a feeling of making progress now.

Tomorrow will be a day of rail towing in preparation for Thursday, where we’ll tow as much as we can across Fryers Rd towards Stephen St. Hopefully by Friday we’ll be back into sledding.

Rail Recovery

It was a very productive day, with much better weather than yesterday.

The gang worked very hard, removing around 1km on anchors, an enormous job, with most of them first needing finding in the ballast, before receiving a good hit from a sledge to set them free, it’s certainly not the best job on the track.

While the hitting was going on, sleepers were being extracted from the roadbed near Hutchinson’s Ln, the piles of old timber can just be seen in the pic above, still a lot to go but we’re getting there.

Next week we’re planning on preparing the next ski jump at Stephen St. and start towing up to the next crossing. Meeting at Stephen Street from 8.30am.
