Sleeper Plates

Well the weather has been very crafty, following today’s prediction of only light rain, it absolutely bucketed down! And promptly got the plate dropper outters very wet.

However once wet, the gang made the decision they probably weren’t going to get any more wet by just staying in the rain, so 4 pallets worth of plates were dropped out, leaving only a few hundred metres to go and all the plates will be out.

However… as soon as the plates were out and the gear packed away, the rain turned off and the sun came out, always the way.

Tuesday’s gang will be meeting at Maldon at 8am or near Sawmill Rd Bridge from 8.30am, inserting the plates.

Thursday Workday

Given the latest forecast is still saying Rain, Thunder and Wind for Thursday, we’ve made the decision to cancel the workday tomorrow. Check back for details of Friday, it’s looking a little better, however we’ll put out a post on the blog tomorrow night confirming the details.

Unfortunately, this year’s weather has been a little unkind to our civil activities, however it’s nice to see it so wet and green.

At stage next Thursday is not looking much better, hopefully that’ll change, however if anyone is interested in moving their day to Tuesday next week, we can easily accommodate many extra hands as we insert sleeper plates, drill holes and stand spikes.

Sleeper plates

Another action filled day of dropping out and stacking sleeper plates! We certainly feel we’re getting close to earning our proficiency badges now.

A small team also managed to get all the standing spikes driven, meaning we’ve now got only one side to go! Sounds easy if you say it fast.

The afternoon was spent doing the glorious task of stacking sleeper plates onto pallets! We managed 4 pallets worth before all of us decided we’d achieved quite a sufficient amount! That’s around 960 plates, which sounds a lot, until you’re out on the ground and realise just how much distance we’ve covered with the rerailing, no doubt we’ll still need to load up at least another 3 pallets before the job is done.

Thursday and Friday are looking wet, particularly Thursday. Check back here Tomorrow night for details of Thursday, however it’s looking like it’ll be wet.
