Today began by replacing the failed point timber at Muckleford. It was nice simple swap out the old and in with the new.

It still needs a tamp, but otherwise it’s job done.

The bulk of the day was replacing 31 timber sleepers on the approach to Walmer Road Crossing.

A few other things such as mowing, general tidying and sorting in the area was also undertaken, to save time on rebuild day (15th December).

The yellow truck also got pushed into service to transport chairs to Castlemaine for Saturday’s members day.

It was a very successful day, with some nice weather for a change!

Tomorrow will include jacking and tamping today’s replacements, in preparation for getting the levels right for the crossing rebuild. Meeting at Muckleford from 8.15am.

Tomorrow’s workday will be at Muckleford, meeting at Maldon 7.45am then by Walmer Rd Crossing from 8.15am.

Today the Down end 3 Road turnout at Maldon received some attention.

We had one timber to replace from some months back when we put the air and water lines in, however while there, we decided to do a proper job and replace a few more. 6 were replaced in total, a combination of new and 2nd hand.

We also replaced a broken rail, unfortunately in these old turnouts, the rails are so worn that breaks occur very easily, thankfully we have none like this in the mainline any longer, there just relegated to the depths of Maldon Yard.

We also managed to fit in some drainage works, which will hopefully stop the water pooling in the area like it has been.

The exact details of Thursday’s workday are yet to be determined, however it’ll likely be a day down at Muckleford preparing for the Wamer Road Crossing Rebuild.

Tomorrow’s crew will be knocking over a few more odd jobs, we’ve got a few jobs to complete around Maldon first up, so we’ll be meeting there from 8am.
