Today with played pick up the hot bits of metal. We managed to loosen, load and stockpile around 1kms worth of fastenings between Stephen St – Fryers Rd and a bit beyond.
Not a fun job by any stretch of the imagination and certainly less exciting in the hotter weather, but the gang did an amazing job given that except for the digger running them to the stockpile it’s all manual labour. It’s now 1km less to do next time! The rest of this week and the start of next will be preparing rails for loading onto trains. We’ve got a rough idea of how we’ll manage the logistics, but like everything so far, it’ll be a learning curve. Meeting around Maldon Jcn tomorrow from 8.30am.
Month: November 2020
Rail Recovery

Today’s exciting task was sleeper plucking and roadbed levelling! We’ve only got about 300m to go and we’ll have half of the sleepers out.
Tomorrow, especially now that our metro volunteers can once again join us, we’ve got plenty planned. We’ll finish sledding to Stephen Street then we’ll be onto picking up and stacking jewellery. Meeting near Stephen Street from 8.15am.
Rail Recovery
As promised we moved all the remaining loose rails over Stephen St. Before morning tea! Admittedly there were only 25ish, but it’s always the way, get extremely quick and efficient right near the end of the job!

After morning tea, our attention was turned to sledding, starting at Fryers Rd and managing to get only a about 200m shy of Stephen St.

By day’s end this whole curve was lifted and dragged up to the crossing. An end to the tedious rail dragging is now in sight, with only just under 2kms to go.
Next week we’ll begin the task of rail sorting, trimming etc… Ready for loading late in the week. Check back Monday night for Tuesday’s meeting point.
Rail Recovery
Another very successful day, with another lot of rails successfully dragged over Moscript St. Now almost filling the gap between the Junction and Moscript St.
Next week we’ll begin preparing rails for loading onto the train ready to be taken out to where they’ll be needed.
Tomorrow however, we’ll be starting at Stephen St. Dragging over what we can, however there’s only half a day’s work there, so hopefully after lunch we’ll be back into sledding. Meeting Stephen St. from 8.15am.
